Just a quick share – worked on a couple of diamond willow carvings while on vacation – ready for the county fair…. made a spoon and staff. Still working on the cane topper wood spirit for the staff…
The blanks were a lucky find at an estate sale – I got a couple of these Alaskan Diamond Willow branches; ideal for staffs. They are formed when a willow grows around diseased patches and forms swirls and bends in the grain. Strip and follow the grain with a hook knife to bring out the form… 🙂 Then about a week of sanding later you have this very unique stick.
