From the Baltimore Sun,
- Video and still image footage was taken by the Baltimore Sun staff photographer Jen Rynda and my be viewed on the Sun’s “darkroom” website, HERE.
- One of their full story articles can be found HERE.
Adirondack Tree Experts began to take the tree down at 930AM on the 27th. The last major trunk section came down in late afternoon. All small branches were immediately shredded and hauled away to compost. Larger branches, trunk sections, and crotches (at our request) were preserved onsite in a massive tarp, where they will remain sealed to cook in the enclosure for two or more weeks. This step is needed to kill the elm borer beetle.
A meeting will be held between the Guild and the Department of Recreation and Parks to discuss how the wood will be used and what its disposition will be. Tim Overstreet will be the point of contact for the Department. Gene Torrey or George Adams will be the Guild contacts.
Mary Ellen Baker, Belmont Manor House General Manager, will be acquiring commemorative medallions, similar to those some Guild members are already using, to provide a durable label to each piece produced. Some items will be placed for sale through the Manor House Gift Shop, and some will be donated back to the county or Manor House.
Please refer to the Guild Sub-Committee Page for the participants list and consolidated list of other articles we produce here on the Guild website.
If you have any questions, please contact Gene Torrey or George Adams.
